There are several theories regarding when the loafer was first invented. The most common of these associates it with Raymond Lewis Wildsmith of Wildsmith Shoes. He is known to have made a causal house shoe for King George VI in 1847. Slippers and loafers have certainly been used for well over 150 years. However, they really became popular in the 60s and 70s. Since then, these shoes have been recognized as high-quality luxury shoes. They can be used with almost any casual or elegant outfit.
Today, there are many companies manufacturing loafers. However, not all use the same techniques. Here at Superglamourous we use the “a sacchetto” or “Bolognese” technique. This ensures the highest quality shoe, such as the Tangerine 9 Toledo Tobacco Belgian loafer. You get elegance, comfort and quality that shows.
The A Sacchetto Technique
“A Sacchetto” literally translates to “bag”. It’s not the most glamorous name for a shoe manufacturing process, but it is quite apt.
In effect the inner lining of the shoe is built like a bag or glove. This ensures there are no seams to irritate your feet in any way. In short, it’s like slipping your foot inside a soft cocoon. It’s comfortable whether you’re wearing the shoe to a special event or all day every day.
It should be noted, this technique is sometimes referred to as “Bolognese”: this is simply because the design was originally conceived in Bologna. Today, “a sacchetto” is a more commonly used term, as it describes the process.
How Superglamourous Applies The A Sacchetto Technique

If you want something stylish yet casual, then take a look at the Tangerine 7 Tetris Green Belgian loafer. However, if you need something a little more formal, then you can’t go wrong with the Philippe Nappa Black Loafer.
One thing is certain: whichever loafer or slipper you choose, Superglamourous will have made it by hand, with passion and dedication to the highest standards possible.
Of course, it’s more than just a process. Superglamourous is the embodiment of Italian flair and design. Choosing one of our loafers or slippers is definitely a safe bet.
Our method of manufacturing loafers and slippers removes the standard rigid mounting pad found in so many shoes. Instead, the inner lining is created first, without seams. Instead of the upper being attached around the sole, it is carefully stitched to the lining, creating the sock or glove shape.
Under this a piece of foam is inserted, ensuring maximum comfort while wearing the shoe. The base, or sole, is then stitched to the base of the glove. All stitching is on the outside, either invisible or part of the design.
This process creates a shoe with a low heel and rough leather soles. Because the leather is applied separately to the lining, comfort is maintained at all times. It’s even possible to repair hard-worn shoes if you wish. The “a sacchetto” technique creates a shoe that is soft, flexible, comfortable, and still gives your feet the support they deserve.
Every step of the process is completed by hand, using the finest materials. Each slipper or loafer is designed to have no seams, be easy to slip on and off and built to last. Superglamourous carefully checks every pair to ensure they reach the highest standards before you purchase them.
